Boss Lady Feature: Olivia Hamel from Livs Life

Olivia and her business partner Joan own Livs Life LLC – an organic, gluten free, soy free and vegan baked goods company based out of Henniker, New Hampshire. She reached out to us to be featured and we love what she and Joan are doing! Be sure to check them out on Facebook!

How long have you owned your business and how did it get started?
Liv’s Life LLC was established in May of this year (2017). We started selling our products to Willows Plant Based Eatery in June. (Willows is located at 55 South Main Street in Concord). Shortly after we started selling our products at Ohana Yoga Studio in Hopkinton, NH in July.

What’s the heart and soul of your business?
Previous to owning the business, my business partner (Joan Oliveria) and myself went through arduous health journeys. Joan suffered from a stroke a few years back and was told by doctors that she would be left with extreme symptoms as a result. Joan decided that this answer wasn’t good enough for her. She took matters into her own hands and researched alternative health and diet extensively. Not only did this research and implementation of a vegan and gluten free lifestyle heal her, but she found herself thriving. Around the same time (on the brink of adulthood) I found myself experiencing extremely poor digestion, anxiety and depression. Livs Life LLC is a product of this determination to heal ourselves. It has turned into a mission to, “Spread health, happiness and love one cookie at a time.” I would say this desire to provide healthy “treat” alternatives to others on their healing journeys is the heart and soul of our business. Looking back I remember often times feeling frustrated reading through ingredients lists. We are creating products with short ingredient lists (with words you can pronounce and are familiar with) so consumers can feel like they are making decisions that will nurture their bodies.

Is there a person or experience in your life that inspired you to want to own your own business?
I have been lucky enough to be surrounded by strong independent women my entire life. My Mother raised my sister and myself on her own and exemplified hard work, compassion and caring. These traits are the backbone of our business. We are always striving to think of ways we can make our business more compassionate towards our bodies, animals and the earth. My business partner, Joan, (who has been by my side helping me to build the business) has been an inspiration to me throughout my life as well. I have known Joan since I was six years old and can honestly say I have never met anyone as selfless as her. Her compassion and willingness to give to others is always what comes to mind when I think of her.

What are your other favorite businesses in and around Concord?
Supporting local businesses is one of the ideals we hold close to our hearts. However, we especially love supporting businesses that contribute to living sustainably and consciously. We love Bonafide Green Goods in Concord, Willows Plant Based Eatery in Concord, the Concord Co-op, Granite State Naturals and Ohana Yoga Studio in Hopkinton.
